Expérimentation vitale ou entreprise suicidaire ? Pour une schizoanalyse des drogues et de l'addiction.

In: La Deleuziana vol. 9: Clinique Schizoanalytique. Eds. Sébastien Laberge & Centro Félix Guattari (Montevideo), 2019.

Abstract: The phenomenon of addiction has been studied in a wide range of disciplines, and there is a lot of contradiction and confusion regarding this complex issue, which indicates that research on this phenomenon may benefit from a new approach. I will assess the literature that applies the thought of Deleuze and Guattari in studies about drug use and abuse, and then advance some tentative suggestions for the elaboration of a schizoanalytic theory and therapy of addiction and drug consumption.

About the issue: The presence of schizoanalysis in South America is probably one of its best kept secrets. Many psychotherapists overtly proclaim schizoanalysis there, and they constitute a particularly dynamic community, which experiments in a way that is open to the world. It is in this stimulating context that La Deleuziana teamed up with Centro Félix Guattari in order to develop this nineth issue, dedicated to the emerging practices of schizoanalysis and to their actuality.

This issue also has the privilege of welcoming an unpublished work by Félix Guattari, which is directly related to the issue's theme: Un changement de paradigme. This is a lecture that Guattari gave at the third meeting of the Latin American Network of Alternatives to Psychiatry, which was held from 17 to 21 December 1986 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In his commentary on this unpublished work, Jean-Sébastien Laberge points out that it contains the first occurrence of the expression ethico-aesthetic paradigm in Guattari's work. He also situates it in relation to the criticisms of Guattari against the scientistic paradigm in the field of psychiatry.
